No, you shouldn't have to run activesync at all as it's not involved.

Did you try the hard reset?  

I'm not sure if the server name is case sensitive or not.  

I think you said your firewall is off?  I had to turn off windows xp firewall 
to get it to work here.  

How about anything in your router?  Do you have a laptop and if so, can you 
connect with that?

Dean seems to be the real network guru around here and he's supposed to be bak 
online Monday New Zealand time I believe.
