Hi Dennis,
To get your actual computer name, on the pc, go to start menu, settings,
control pannel, system.
Hit enter on system and you will have 7 tabs in there probably. I'm using
xp home, so it may be slightly different with other windows versions, but
probably
close enough for you to locate it.
One of the tabs is computer name. On my machine it's the second tab.
I'm using window eyes, and you have to use the mouse pointer to read all
the values. Not sure about jfw. Anyway, in there you will see your
computer
name right by the heading "full computer name".
Now, when you are trying to access a drive over the network, you get to
network place. From there hit space and select browse entire network.
At this point you will see a prompt for network server and just enter the
name of your machine found in the systems section of control pannel on
your pc.
I just bypass the username and password prompts and this seems to work
okay. When it asks to update login information I'd press no since you
really don't
know for sure it will work.
Then you get a message about default, so just press enter to get past that
and you will see "end of list". Exit and the connection process should
start.
Also, I've found that if you try to do this and fail, you may need to do a
reset of the bn to clear things out again. The 4 5 6 (j k l) reset seems
to work best for
me in this instance.
A final note. You mentioned one of your machines is named Dennis. If
your logon name for that machine is also Dennis, you might also try
changing the
computer name to something else. You can do this in the "change" dialog
within control pannel, systems, tab of computer name on your pc.
My windows logon name is don and so was the name of my computer. For some
reason either windows or the bn didn't like that, but as soon as I changed
the computer name to something else, the connection worked.
