Hello everyone. I know many of you have ordered KeySoft 6.1, and are

to hear how things are progressing. For those who haven't ordered it
yet,
this serves as a reminder about this exciting release and how it can help
you stay in control of your information no matter where you are.
I'm pleased to be able to tell you that KeySoft 6.1 has been in the hands
of
our private beta testers for the last few weeks. They're working hard to
make sure that when KeySoft 6.1 reaches you, the upgrade process is
smooth
and the great new features work well. If you've ordered KeySoft 6.1,
you'll
receive it on a compact flash card. By following the instructions,
you'll
be able to upgrade the entire operating system in your BrailleNote to
Microsoft's Windows CE 4.2. Not only will the process burn the new
operating system into ROM, but it will also burn the new version of
KeySoft
into ROM, ensuring you have maximum use of your Flash Disk for storing
documents and other data. As the first company to make Windows CE
accessible to blind people back in 2000, the upgrade to this new version
of
the operating system continues our vision of giving you the latest in
mainstream technology in a way that maximises your efficiency and
productivity. Some of you with computers will no doubt have upgraded
your
operating system before. It can be a pretty daunting process can't it?
In
this case however, we've worked hard to make sure the upgrade process,
despite its technical complexity, is fully accessible and easy to do.
Braille and audio information is provided throughout the entire process,
which takes around 35 minutes. During this process, your e-mail and
address
list databases will be converted to a new format automatically. As you
can
appreciate, it's really important that we test this process thoroughly
and
make sure that it works well in the wide variety of configurations out
there. For this reason, we anticipate releasing KeySoft 6.1 in the new
year, and not in this quarter as we had previously advised. We know the
use
of your BrailleNote is too important to you for us to release software
that's not up to the standard you've come to depend on. But of course we
also know that you want to gain access to all the exciting new
functionality. So rest assured that we won't be releasing a day later
than
we need to, or a day earlier than we should.
Testing shows that wireless Internet access is working well. Testers who
have purchased a compatible wireless Ethernet card are able to take their
BrailleNotes to cafes, airports, hotels, work places and schools, and
gain
access to the Internet through both secure and insecure wireless
connections. In the coming weeks, we will be sure to provide further
information on wireless cards we are supporting, to assist you in
purchasing
the right kind of card. Remember, if you want to use KeySoft 6.1's
wireless
functionality, you need to purchase a compatible wireless card
separately.
The improvements we've made to KeyWeb, with its much updated browser
engine,
mean that the browser runs faster and works with many more pages than it
used to, all with the most intuitive web browsing interface in the
industry.
The new e-mail system offers support for multiple e-mail accounts. The
new
Network Configuration database allows you to easily manage the various
ways
you might want to connect to the Internet, whether that be through the
built-in modem, your cell-phone, wireless, or standard Ethernet. And
speaking of Ethernet, KeySoft 6.1 will give you full access to networks,
so
you can access files and folders on networks you are entitled to access.
We know that in the blind community, the cost of technology is an issue,
which is why even a customer who purchased one of the first BrailleNotes
in
2000 has been able to keep pace with emerging technologies by upgrading
their BrailleNote. That's a policy we're committed to.
