Hi Terry, Please don't hesitate to ask any BN question, no matter how silly it might sound. I've been told, over and over again, that there is never such thing as a stupid question. I'm glad you didn't unsubscribe because of the very unkind response to your post yesterday, no one should be scared of the list or afraid to ask any question. There was a time when I first picked up my BrailleNote and had no idea what was in the main menu, never mind the best way to read books. We all started out with that level of knowledge, maybe we should remember that when we find ourselves thinking someone has posted a stupid question. Now, back to the subject of this message. Personally, I have not found the scrolling function to be that helpful when reading books, mostly because my reading speed varies quite a bit. However, I do know several people who use this feature a lot and love it. The best advice I can give someone who is just starting out with the book reader is to be careful when opening a book for the first time. Make sure exactly what the file type is, text or Braille for instance. You have to tell the BN what that file type is, and if you give it the wrong information, the Braille won't look right at all. Feel absolutely free to write me off-list, or any of the kind and considerate people who have also offered, if you need more specific instructions.

I have a sight problem, epolepsi, and a mild hearing problem. Epolepsi causes me to have a short term memory because of seizures. I keep a folder of commands that I want to remember. When I heard about scroling I thought it would help me be able to read books. Some of you might remember, I just lost my mother two weeks ago. Also my office is starting a new secretarial pool under A76. I did not even think of reading the manual ahead of time. When I first started, I did read the introductory ahead of time. Many others ask how to do a spacific command, then why cann't I? Bye for now Terry Powers Powerful Powers who is willing to stand up for her rights, NFB. -----Original Message----- From: Sherry Gomes [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, October 05, 2004 9:55 AM To: 'Braillenote List' Subject: RE: [Braillenote] PK demo, scrolling I want to add that I really appreciate Rhonda's helpfulness on this list. Though I've had my braille note for several years, I've never yet used it to its full potential, using it more for simple note taking, beginning papers, recipes, calendar and address book. I want to be able to use it more fully. for instance, I expect to be traveling to some job interviews in the near future, away from my PC. I'd like to learn how to use the email function and have loads of questions about it. But early in my time here on the list, someone answered me sharply a couple times, when they thought I asked a dumb question, so I just quit asking and read the messages. I also read the manual. LOL. i've learned a lot from Rhonda's posts, as well as learning from others too. I appreciate the people on this list who are so willing to help the rest of us. I'm darn good with a PC and on other lists, I'm helpful and want to assist people when I have answers. But here, I'm probably not even at the intermediate stage. So, thanks to Rhonda and everyone who doesn't mind helping the rest of us. after all, that's why we are all here, to learn and to help each other. someday, it will be my turn to help someone else with a question that I can answer. You can't put it any better than this! I don't need to tell you that you belong here more than those who said you didn't! I hope you won't let them discourage you! You're a valuable resource. I've noticed this a lot, I have been written about on this list telling me of my many errors, I've even had the pleasure of people writing to me off-list asking me to stay off the list. No matter how many "smiles and grins" we put in when we say something mean, the sting of those words are still the same. You can't ever take those stinging words away. One day, we will all need help; maybe not on the list, but in some other circumstance. Whether Terry was or was not right to ask for the commands, she certainly deserved a kinder answer than the rude one she received. What, is she a ten-year-old? No, she's an adult, like everyone else on this list. She had just as much of a right to ask her question as anyone, without being given an answer, calculated to make her feel about two inches tall. You know, when you get right down to it, most questions, asked on the list, can be found in the manual! Maybe, we should eliminatethe list! Actually, I don't want to eliminate the list; just the rudeness. If you don't think a question is warranted or legitimate, don't answer it. You don't have to rake someone over the coals. This list has taught me a lot, but, by golly, I'll unsubscribe, if this rudeness doesn't stop!! I hope it doesn't come to that! Thank you. God bless.
