Hi Demian.

Put in a blind portafilter basket (no holes) or insert the rubber stopper
that came with your machine. Pull the lever up, and see where the pressure
winds up, then lower the lever. Turn the screw counterclockwise a bit,
maybe half a turn, and pressurize again. Keep doing this until you get down
to the pressure you're after. It's subtle, but if you just dial down to the
desired pressure, the next cycle will be slightly different (usually too
high for me) than what you are after.

If you happen to go too low, you can turn the screw clockwise while the pump
is running until you hit your desired pressure.

In other words, you need to release/rebuild pressure each time when
decreasing pressure, but you can go straight to your desired pressure when
increasing pressure. This also means that you could start off by turning
the screw out a couple of turns, pressurize, dial it to 9, and be done with
it.

If you set it at 9 with a blind PF, your shots should pull at about 8.5.

In any case, beware of running the pump too long.

Take care,
bmc
