Can't speak for the specifics of the way they are building the BIII in the
U.S., but my rotary conversion done on my original Minore (as the B is known
as in Oz) has only ever drawn water from a container, and it works just fine

I'm doing some research on a new espresso machine and like the BIII-V,
but would prefer the BIII-R as it runs quieter.  Does anyone have
experience dropping the water intake line into a water jug?
