We have been running a Brewtus III with Rotary pump with the water line dropped
into a 5 gallon jug of water for many months and it works great.
The key point is that if you do this there is no low water cut off to turn off
the pump if the water runs low. And if you run the pump without water it won't
take long before you damage it.
So, yes you run it off of a jug of water, just be careful not let it run out.

Can't speak for the specifics of the way they are building the BIII in the
U.S., but my rotary conversion done on my original Minore (as the B is known
as in Oz) has only ever drawn water from a container, and it works just fine
