It happened again. Bummer. This time I fixed it the way the Whole Latte Love tech people told me. The first time I fixed it, I had re-used the h-shaped connector. They told me to throw it away and get some crimp connectors to connect the power cord wires instead of using the h-connector. It blew apart at the h-connector this time. I used the crimp connectors and hope that this does not happen again.
I had been using an appliance timer to turn the Brewtus on about an hour before I woke up each day. I am wondering it the electric surge from the timer switch might have caused the problem.
