I found that as well, it seems once the filter is fully submerged and water logged it would sit on the bottom. That being said i don't even use the filter any more as i was constantly cleaning or replacing it. I have been going without for over a year now with no problems. I don't know how recommended that is but it has worked. make sure you are filtering the water and possibly even softening it a bit as the water is very hard in Calgary. Kirk
