There probably shouldn't be grind, but perhaps a bit got blown back towards the
pump? I wonder if perhaps this was just some debris from manufacturing. Take
off the screen tip on the water wand, and be sure you don't have more junk in
there, and flush a time or two with it off. You shouldn't see any more grind
in there.

The beige color water is normal--when you only use steam out of that boiler,
you are effectively concentrating the mineral content in the boiler (you add
more mineralized water each time the pump runs, but only take off pure water in
the form of steam, leaving more and more minerals in the boiler--at least
that's how I understand it). So, by flushing the water out like you did, you
are running out all the water with concentrated mineral content, and replacing
it with "normal" dilution water. It normally takes me about three flush/heat
cycles to clear it out if I have left it for a while. I now usually flush it
once weekly, and then I only need one flush to clear things up again.

It is also normal for the temp on the machine to drop--you are replacing the
boiling+ water in the steam boiler with cold tap water, and that makes the heat
exchanger non-existent (because the water flowing to the brew boiler through
the steam boiler isn't pre-heating at all until the steam boiler is back up to
temperature).
