Thank you so much Ira for the quick reply.

The problem with the air/steam in the line is that in this state when
I brew a shot the pump first has to refill all of the tubing from the
pump through the heat exchanger, then the brew boiler in order to brew
a shot. This is both an annoyance and I believe it is affecting the
quality of the espresso.

The steam starts to flow backwards from the fitting on the bottom of
the steam boiler connected to the heat exchanger from here it travels
back through the silicon tubing towards the opv.
> How can you tell it's coming from there, the tubing is not clear, is it?

I failed to tighten the fitting properly ( I have since corrected
this) and so the very first place the steam/air starts to form is here
then I see it in the silicon tubing connecting to the OPV.

The silicon tubing connecting the steam boiler to the OPV becomes very
hot when the air/steam starts to flow backwards as described. That's
why I thought it was steam. I suppose it could water above the boiling
point that then turns to steam when exposed to atmospheric
pressure...whatever it is though it is hot. I don't know if this
silicon tubing from the steam boiler back to the OPV and finally back
to the reservoir should be hot like that. Should it contain air? I
don't ever remember this when I first used my machine.

Thanks.
Patrick
