hello liys,

i am not sure if it is a problem, i am just trying to figure that out.

as for coffee dripping for 11 seconds during pre-infusion, i would think that probably means you grind is too coarse. there should be very little or no dripping until the end of the pre-infusion period; in my experience, the flow should ideally start while the pressure builds.

is your crema light in color? how is the flow rate, do you get about 2oz in about 25-30 seconds? how does the espresso taste?

this aside, there's another thing with this long pre-infusion time. it either influences flow rate (normal extraction time) or extraction time (normal flow rate).

let me explain, since the pre-infusion is about 5 seconds longer than normal, this means you will have to either extract more espresso in less time (under pressure) so that means have a higher flow rate. or, you will have to take more time, say 4 or 5 seconds extra, to keep the flow rate the same.

this last option should be not a problem, since extraction happens *a lot* slower when not under pressure (drip coffee takes several minutes) so the pre-infusion time does not count as proper espresso extraction, which means in theory that you can take a bit longer and have a normal flow rate.

i would like to get some opinions on this!

i have experimented with both ideas, but found neither of them superior so far. of course, all my test results are troubled with the problems i am having. if every cup has a biting mouthfeel and distorted taste, it's hard to tell what's better. it surely did not solve my issue!

i still need to hear from other brewtus iv vibrational pump users, if this extended pre-infusion is normal behaviour. please speak up, people.

all the best,
guido.

exactly like my BIII, so I'm looking forward to hear your solution. I
got the crema after about 11s, this is where it reaches about 8bar and
to it's peak (9bar) pressure at about 12s. So for about 11s it's all
just coffee drip :( My silvia produces more crema with La Marzocco
original single basket. With the same basket, coffee ground & weight I
got much less crema with my BIII. Even my 100 bucks magimix Nespresso
machine produces lot more crema with a hacked capsule filled with merely
6gr of the same MXK grind toraja coffee bean. I'm thinking it's the
problem with the pump, the pressure relief, or bend hose in the inside
or something, but I'll be watching if someone has the answere to this
for now.
