hello barry,

thank you for the suggestions. my comments are below the quote.

Have you given the machine a good cleaning? Drop the screen and scrub it
with Cafiza, and clean the grouphead as well. Backflush the innards with
a blind portafilter and 1/2 tsp of Cafiza. Do this about 5 times and
rinse at least 10.

backflushing is routine, i do it once a week or so with water. every once in a while i do it with a liquid cleaner.

i hadn't jet removed the brewhead, but i did that after reading your post.

there was a thin layer of black dirt inside, i could just wipe it off with a cleaning cloth.

i soaked the parts as described in the manual from this group (except that it seems you can't separate the screen from the gasket on my model) and then thoroughly cleaned the brewhead and it's surroundings using a cloth with soap solution.

there was a subtle bitter-tarry kind of flavor to the water from the grouphead, that is gone now.

it did improve my espresso, but it didn't solve the problem.

The Brewtus can reach a level of coffee "dirt" pretty quickly with a lot
of usage. Unless cleaned, every shot will have a bitter, nasty taste.

it's good to know this. after how many double shots should i perform this cleaning task?

thank you.

have a great day,
guido.
