The theory is that you "Re-charge" it.  I suspect that few people pay much 
attention to that procedure.  Instead, they try to keep the input water soft 
... Often by mixing distilled water with a spring water to achieve a 70 on 
their  $50? TDS (total dissolver solids) meter. And Of Course you have read the
