        You are right. I make a mistake. That patch at kernel.org 
(patch-2.4.18.gz) is the diff between 2.4.17 and 2.4.18.
        He must apply patches upgrading:
                2.4.7 to 2.4.8
                2.4.8 to 2.4.9
                2.4.9 to 2.4.10
                ..... (go on!)
                2.4.17 to 2.4.18

        and finally bridge-netfilter patch.
        For a moment, I thought patch-2.4.18.gz was the diff between 2.4.0 to 
2.4.18. Brain diarea :-))
