Thanks for your info up till now.
I went for the 2.4.18 source and compiled it with the patch, so that
*everything* should be up to date.
All seems to have installed correctly.
But now I have a question about usage. It seems that once I activate my
Bridge, I am unable to receive any traffic on the machine.
So my question is : once the bridge is up, can the machine itself receive
traffic? I thought it could if you assign it an IP address.
Do I need to add some info to the routing table ?
here is the sequence of commands I performed:
(first let me show you my ethernet config):
# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:DA:CF:FF:9F
inet addr:X.Y.Z.83 Bcast:X.Y.Z.95 Mask:255.255.255.240
UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
...
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:BA:B5:20:01
inet addr:X.Y.Z.84 Bcast:X.Y.Z.255 Mask:255.255.255.240
UP BROADCAST RUNNING PROMISC MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
...
Now...
# ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0
# ifconfig eth1 0.0.0.0
# brctl addbr br0
# brctl addbr br0 eth0
# brctl addbr br0 eth1
# ifconfig br0 X.Y.Z.83
# ifconfig br0 up
(things should be working now, right?)
# host google.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
( this was working before addbr )
# ping X.Y.Z.81
64 bytes from X.Y.Z.81: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=1.846 msec
(strange... I can ping my router, and other computers on the network )
# ping 63.211.39.10 (my ISP's nameserver)
connect: Network is unreachable
Please do advise, what do do!
FYI my IPTables config is empty, with the default 3 rules set to ACCEPT
Thanks
Nat
