Hi, there,
Is there somebody using linux bridge runs across
the broadcast problem?
The bridge sometimes can not send UDP broadcast
packets out, captured with "tcpdump ether host",
>arp who-has 172.18.255.255 tell
172.18.17.2
>802.1d config 8000.00:02:e3:02:98:f5.8001 root
8000.00:02:e3:02:98:f5 pathcost 0 age 0 max 20 hello 2 fdelay 15
172.18.17.2/16 is my linux box, it seems that
bridge can not recognize 172.18.255.255 as its broadcast.
And there is another bridge in the same network
with the ip 172.18.17.1/16
If ping broadcast address, only the box itself
replies, captured with "tcpdump icmp"
lo > 172.18.17.2 > 172.18.17.2: icmp: echo
reply
lo < 172.18.17.2 > 172.18.17.2: icmp: echo
reply
Obviously the packet can not be sent out though its
physics interface.
I am using redhat with linux 2.2.19 and bridge
patch in my linux box, thanks for any illumination
