I can tell you that the Embassy Suites on Julia St. was a decent place
when we were in New Orleans for Siggraph this summer. I don't know what
your desired price range is or how close you wanted to be to the French
Quarter or anything, though. I think Hector was reasonably content in the
Doubletree, which was closer to the French Quarter and further from the
Convention Center. (The Embassy Suites was closer to the nearest door of
the convention center than that door was to where I wanted to be *in* the
convention center....)
And if you're looking for decent barbecue more of the Texas bent than of
the Carolina bent, I can recommend the Ugly Dog, which isn't too far from
the Embassy Suites. (But who goes to New Orleans for BBQ?)
