Lemme guess. Harris is a Republican?
I can't say this behaviour is very democratic. Apparently she's reasoning:
"the recount is beneficial to Gore, therefore it's not good for the
Republicans, therefore those votes for Gore must be ignored". How is she
ever going to explain to the Gore-voters that their votes will be ignored?
"Well, you see, because of your votes, Bush can't become president, which
is bad, so we must ignore your votes. I'm sure you'll understand..."
The behaviour of the GOP is so incredibly childish. The Democrats ask for a
recount -- the Reps go to court to stop that, even though the law gives
parties the right to ask for a recount. The recount is giving Gore more
votes, so the chances of him winning the election are growing -- Harris
says she will ignore those votes.
The Reps don't seem to be interested in a fair election; it looks to me
that they only want to do whatever they can to sabotage the process,
because they don't like the outcome. Do they even realize that their
behaviour is making them look pathetic?

Indeed. They don't seem so supportive of democracy anymore, and this is
just the election! Imagine what horribly things they might do to democracy
if Bush would win! <shudder>
