Anybody an expert on DOS/Windows systems programming? Do you know what
kind of wierd software or hardware conflicts could cause a PC to behave as
if the ALT key was stuck down? (And no, it's not in Sticky Keys, I
checked.) THe ony cure is to reboot. It happens when the (custom developed
and that's all I know; ties to Oracle db server and filenet) software I do
my work on is running, and (in the background) I try to run protected mode
version Nethack 3.2 (the game), unde rfullscreen DOS, and sometimes when I
give the Ctrl-D command (only sometimes but it's happened more than
once) to kick down a door, Nethack freezes, and hitting Tab without Alt
takes me back to WIndows, and typing F is Find File....I couldn't tell you
much about the proprietary software even if I understood it since it is in
house stuff, but the OS is Windows 95b, and the hardware is a two year old
Compaq Deskpro EN Pentium 2/300 with an ESS audio chip on the motherboard,
ATI graphics, 3com EThernet connected...) This isn't exactly something I
can ask the corporate helpdesk (You were doing what?) but it probably
wouldn't ohappen on a home machine either; I dunno...Other software
(sometimes also running too) Internet Exploder 5, Outlook 2000, Office 97
apps. Once it happened when I was not running Nethack but was listening to
streaming RealAudio. only once and not a site I go to often. Nethack
doesn't use the sound drier but it uses DOS things. WEIRD! Anybody like
debugging a computer for the fun of it?
