I'd thought: Catholic in the small-c sense. Catholic originally meant
"universal." During the *first* millennium it wasn't Catholic church as
opposed to some other denomination, because it was the ONLY church! So the
OC bible - they capitalize, but it's "catholic" in that it's the
Universal Bible.
As for what religions, Dune is set so far in the future that even by the
time the ecumenists got together most of the religions *we* know had
gotten all mixed up. They were, however, differentiated enough that the
ecumenists' contemporaries lynched them as heretics. The final result
though, might be best described as spritual chop suey.
