Whatever the proper term is, though, is there anywhere a list of which 
countries fall into each category?  I don't think I've ever heard of any 
specific nation being listed in the middle category ("second world" or 
"nations in transition" or whatever).

Of course, you have a point about the lack of news coverage of any trouble 
in Sri Lanka.
