You might have a point if the rich _were_ paying 40%, but of course they are
not.  The richer you are the more loopholes there are. I don't have any facts
or figures, but there is little doubt in my mind that when it comes right down
to total income before any kind of deductions, wealthy Americans pay a smaller
percentage of taxes than average.   I'm sure you are aware, John, that the IRS
audits a far higher percentage of middle income Americans because it's too
expensive to go after the rich and their lawyers and accountants. How anyone
can think that the rich in this country are being taken advantage of is beyond
me.
