power strutuctures. Few other societal institutions are as beholden to
the wishes of the people. If the corporation stops providing a product
that the people want, they go out of business and lose their power. Its
as simple as that.

I don't think it's the matter of providing the product but the
bad/unethical/harmful things they might do in order to provide the product.
If they were not regulated, do you really think that most corporations would
still "do the right thing" when it comes to the environment, worker safety,
adequate wages for workers, etc. to provide their product? A few might, but
overall, I don't think they would, then our system would slowly revert to
feudalism with the family heads of the corporations being lords, and everyone
not part of the elite would live as serfs working in factories their whole
lives 80 hours per week just to supply the necessities of life.
