I had to read big chunks of that for my Latin class in high school. I've
forgotten most of it, alas, but it was pretty cool. I've tackled
Herodotus before, too, but I kept getting bogged down in the details of
his travelogues and by the time he returned to the theme of the Persian
War, I'd forgotten what was going on.
Have you read Anthony Blond's _Scandalous History of the Roman Emperors?_
It's kind of light in terms of pure history, but it's a load of fun to
read.
