That is almost certainly true, since the show was cobbled together
from a mishmash of Gene Roddenberry's old show ideas.
BTW, if you really want the perfect Brin-L parallel, Andromeda is
actually The Postman in space. :-) Dylan has a starship instead
of a postman's jacket, but it has a similar effect. The Nietscheans
(sp? Jeeze, what a horrible name to spell, for a philosopher or a
group of people!) are genetically enhanced humans with a love of
Ayn Rand, who toppled the Commonwealth... sound like any Holnists
we know? The morality of the good guys and the bad guys match up
with Brin rants pretty well...
