I thought the idea of any fund raising gala or banquet is that rich people pay
more to be part of that exclusive feel of the good and the rightous. Or to put it
differently to stuff their faces with all the best foods and drinks in order to
give a few dollars to starving kids in some third world country. The difference
between what the food and the ambiente costs and the actual price paid is the gain
for the charity. Added bonus for these rich is that at the same time they get fed
(without any obvious moral dilemma) they have the opportunity to work on their
social networks.
