Hi Jason.

Seeing as you've just ask the Great Newbie Question, I shall explain:

It's been quite a while since the last Brin book, so we're all talked out,
and anyway, off-topic discussion is considered on-topic here. Anyway, I tend
to believe that any forum that discusses a single author who only publishes
a book every 18 months and allows no other chat whatsoever is destined to
vanish up its own arse in short order...

If you have any comment, query, whatever, please feel free to start a
thread, it will almost certainly spark a flurry of on-topicness.

Also, we're due to be doing a chapter by chapter critique of Glory Season,
starting in a few weeks (to give everyone time to
find/buy/borrow/steal/photocopy a copy...), so grab the book and get
reading. We've done The Practice Effect in the last few months, if you'd
like a condensed version of the results, e-mail me offlist at

Next Brin offering is called The Kiln People, and explores a world in which
you can make short-lived copies of yourself to perform some of your daily
tasks (hope I've got that right...). www.davidbrin.com should have more
info, like when it's out.

Anyway, welcome to the Brin-L, please tell us about yourself. We're all
friendly (except me, I'm just lulling you into a false sense of security...
<wink>).
