as i'm sure others may have written, the beeps are a trouble-
shooting aide. the number indicates what the problem might be. 
memory fails, however, and i do not remember what the 2 quick 
beeps might mean. however, if you have (or can borrow) a copy of 
IBM PC Maintenance and Troubleshooting (from Que Books), you 
will find their meaning in one of the appendices.
also, try booting from a dos boot disk.
