I'd guess it's the same as a "bandana" which is a square (or nearly square
rectangle) of cloth, big enough so that if you fold it along a diagonal,
it'll tie nicely around the head to protect the hair from getting dirty
(unless you have way too much hair for that, and then it'll at least keep
most of it from falling into your work) or over the face just below the
eyes to either screen dust or hide identity.

Now, if something there didn't make sense, let me know.  :)  I'm not sure
how clearly I'm thinking right now.  (I'm pretty sure I'm awake, at least,
but for how long?)
