In my mind it does.   I would not write that sentence if there were three

I might suggest that you adopt my habit of keeping "dictionary.com" handy
while reading this book.   There were many words that I looked up.  Would
there be interest in me posting definitions of the words I had to look up?

Maia does seem to have quite a bit of knowledge about Earth - so it is not
entirely out of character.

More importantly, this book isn't so much told from Maia's viewpoint as it
is told from what I think English Majors would call "First Person
Omniscient" viewpoint.   The narrator tells the story from Maia's eyes (as
opposed to "3rd Person Omniscient"), but is clearly an omniscient narrotor
(and *not* Maia) all the same.
