My recommendation is _The Economist._ I can usually finish the entire
issue (so long as there is no bonus section) during my half-hour each-way
commute each day. It is so thorough, I've pretty much stopped watching
television news, as it seems so shallow in comparison. Plus, as a
foreign publication, their perspective on US political events is actually
remarkably solid.
