I'm happy to report that both of my cats are still actively producing* used
litter, so that is not an (honest) option.
(*According to the vet, the older one has suffered from FUS** in the
past***, but in the 2+ years I've had him, he hasn't had a relapse.
**For the non-cat-owners in the audience, "FUS" = "Feline Urinary
Syndrome," a disease mostly of male cats who for some reason produce
crystals in their urine which . . . um . . . plug up the pipes, so to
speak. When it gets that bad, it's life-threatening.
***I was looking for another cat a couple of years ago after losing an
older one****, and at the same time another client of my vet had to move
and had to give up all but one of her cats, so the vet arranged for me to
adopt him. It took about a month for him to decide to come out of under
the bed except for brief trips to the food dish & litter box when I was at
school.
****Maybe if I look hard enough I can find some leftover fur from that cat,
which I could honestly advertise as OOP. He was also definitely "rare" in
that (1) he was best friends with the neighbor's dog and (2) he survived
being run over twice to live for about another five years.
Can you tell that I am used to reading & writing academic papers, where the
footnotes greatly outnumber the actual text?)
