Our VCR broke last fall. I opened it up, but of course I couldn't see
anything obviously wrong. So, we had to get another one, because
there's no way to know how much it might cost to repair it. But of
course we couldn't throw out the broken one, so it sat in the closet
for a couple of months.

We debated giving it to Goodwill, but what would they do with a broken
VCR? But we didn't want it to go to a landfill either. Then my wife
decided to sell off a few useless books and tchotchkes on ebay...and we
decided to list the broken VCR. Clearly labeled as broken. A minor
bidding war ensued, and we finally sold the thing for $15, plus
shipping and handling. Hopefully the guy who bought it can fix it, or
use the parts.

And that's my "ebay insanity" story.
