I heard that, but it is related to the massive glut of CD's in the Market.
Once the inventory levels are reduced, prices will go up again. Right now
CDR manufacturers are losing their shirts on CDR's.
BTW, Sony is discontinuing its "Gold" CDR's. These CD's are reputed to have
the longest life of any CDR. because of the Gold in it. Buy them now if you
want the best. For Archiving, don't buy cheap CDR's.
My mother is big into Geneology. She has a lot of pictures that are 70+
years old. I find it facinating that one of my children's children's
children (ad infinitum) may actually use antique CDR technology to view
digital images of me. Imagine 200 years from now, archivists using advanced
tools to extract the digital media from these worn discs.
