Which suggests that rather than building a missile defense system, the US
should merely advertise the fact that it has a perfectly operational missile
defense system. That should be a lot cheaper! Just like those "Protected by
Imaginary Security System" stickers you can buy for your windows.
Unfortunately, I don't consider that a joke; given how incredibly difficult
the task of a missile intercept is and the amount of volume to defend, I'm
fairly certain that - until we have technology that renders a defense system
obsolete anyway - any such system will be 90% PR and 10% working technology.
