Thanks Tom, Gautam, and Marvin, for the input on Foote, and for the
recommendations. Thanks to this list I never have a problem finding something
good to read anymore. I have read the McPherson and found it very good. I've
also read the first book in Catton's Army of the Potomac series and am waiting
for the second to appear on the shelves of Know Knew Books as well as the
first in his other Civil War series. Gautam got me started with his
recommendation of Sandburg's Lincoln bio, and it seems the more I read, the
more the era fascinates me. The Shaara's fictional series was very
interesting as well. I'm particularly interested in reading more about Joshua
Chamberlain, the Bowdoin rhetoric professor-turned-soldier whose Twentieth
Maine Regiment was instrumental in holding the left flank of the Union line on
the second day at Gettysburgh. If you've seen the movie Gettysburgh, based on
Michael Shaara's _Killer Angels_, you are familiar with the character. In
any case, I guess I've been bitten, and as Tom pointed out, there's no lack of
reading material on the subject. 8^)
