Then chose another example, because what you said was not
the conversion of "love for your wife" to dollars, but
"a remote chance that the kidnappers will honour the
agreement and release her" to dollars.
But "love for your wife" can have a value in dollars;
how many people have lost it for selling their souls
to jobs that the wife hated? Or by spending too much
hours outside home for money? Or even by prostitution?
So, each one places a value for "love for your wife" -
and, as I said in my first message, this value is relative,
subjective, and usually illogical, as some people
may lose it for some ridiculously small salaries.
