I'll give you a few more reasons:
Phil Foglio's "Girl Genius" - It's Steampunk plus adventure, romance and Mad
Science. Loads of fun, plus Phil Foglio's distinctive, quirky style. Fun,
fun, fun.
Warren Ellis' "Planetary" - Three people uncovering the secret history of
the world. Each issue focuses on a particular genre of the sci-fi/pulp era,
from the dark pulp adventures of Doc Savage and The Spider to Godzilla, with
detours through Hong Kong action flicks and traditional comic book stories.
There's mystery wrapped within mystery and enough action to keep things
spicy.
While you're at it, there's also Warren Ellis' run on "The Authority", which
takes the concept of a super team like the Justice League and asks, "What
happens if they don't let everything go back to normal after they fight the
bad guys? What if they decide to make the world a better place according to
a higher moral authority?" It's dark and violent and surprisingly real.
There are 2 trades out, and they're worth reading.
