I ordered from Amazon UK once, but IIRC their shipping rates are comparable
to what Amazon US (and Amazon Germany) charge. The main difference is (not
surprisingly) that Amazon UK sells the UK edition of books instead of the
US edition (and given the cover art I have seen on some US editions, that
*is* something to be thankful for...). The main benefit from choosing
Amazon UK is the shorter distance, which probably means a shorter delivery
time.

An alternative, BTW, is Proxis (www.proxis.be). I have ordered from them
too, and all you pay there is the book price -- no S&H costs. It is still
somewhat of a puzzle though when you want to order several books --
sometimes Amazon is cheaper than Proxis, even when you include S&H,
sometimes Proxis is cheaper. I am not sure if they ship outside Europe, though.
