I want to voice my disagreement here - the idea (and I like the idea!) was to
come up with a must-read list - what you would present to someone new to Sci-Fi
to run with... It's not a list of what books we like. I enjoyed all the Uplift
books (obviously), but I'm not convinced that Sundiver should be on the
must-read list (assuming Startide is there to introduce the Uplift Universe, and
it must be on a must-read list).
As a list of must-read books, I think it should be books. Where do you draw the
line? Fire Upon the Deep and Deepness in the Sky are 30,000 years apart but
share one universe - is that a series? I think if you include a series in the
list, it must mean you think that every single book in the series is a must
read, and it should occupy that many places in the list.
