Given that Timothy McVeigh lived long enough to be executed, I think bin
Laden can be protected in custody long enough to be tried. (McVeigh was
the guy who exploded a large bomb outside a federal building in Oklahoma
City in 1995, if you're not sure who I'm talking about.)
That is, unless you think that someone is going to perform a massive act
of destruction wherever it is he's held and then tried, in which case
it's not bin Laden's safety that's of concern but the safety of any
innocents who may be in the area.
