Well, what did you *think* Buffalo was?
For instance, where do you think of the following cities as being:
1) Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Toledo.
2) Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore
Now, to which group of cities does Buffalo more closely belong?
So, while Buffalo *is* in New York State, which is an Eastern State, as a
city, I think that it is definitely Midwest.
Several people at my Office have argued this same point with me before. I
advertatly convinced them, however, at a recent office social. Its
traditional in our office to celebrate birthdays by having the co-worker
with the next birthday bring in a small treat for the Office. Well, when
my turn came up, I circulated an e-mail inviting everyone to "enjoy lemon
squares and pop in honor of Diana's birthday today at 1:00." After the
e-mail went around, my supervisor came over to me and said: "O.k. J.D.,
I'll admit that Buffalo really is Midwest, because only someone from the
Midwest would come up with "*lemon squares* and *pop*" for a treat. :-)
