In fact, before Sept. 11th I always deliberately packed my Swiss Army Knife
in my carry-on. That's because Swiss Army Knives are incredibly useful
little suckers, and when you are traveling you'll never know when you'll
wish that you had scissors, or a cutter, or a bottle opener, or a toothpick
handy.

Anyhow, my point is that it is perfectly legal to learn how to fly a plane
without learning take-offs and landings. It is also perfectly legal to
buy first class plane tickets in cash. If someone had asked some
inconvenient questions, however, some people might be alive today who are
otherwise dead.

I'd give this postal worker a medal for following up on someone buying
4,000 stamps in cash, and specificly requesting to not have American Flags
on them. O.k., so American Flag Stamps might be considered unpatriotic by
a very literal reading of the US Flag Code - but the Flag Stamps are
nonetheless the most popular stamps that the Postal Service sells. The
unusual combination of a large purchase, payment in cash, and not wanting
flags should warrant some inconvenient questioning.
