You can feel free to tell the several thousand people who died "Hey, at
least you weren't killed by weapons!"

Sorry, Jeroen, but both "traditional war" and "terrorism" constitute "armed
attacks."   The North Atlantic Treaty simply specifies that it refers to
armed attacks.

I am sorry if other North Atlantic Treaty Members who were victims of armed
attacks did not feel that they needed the assistance of the Alliance to
defend themselves, but it certainly was their right.   The US certainly
can't force anyone else to invoke the Treaty.
