Thomas is a stationary engineer. The position was for supervisor over his
department (Central Plant) at a hospital. His duties would have included
writing reports, intra-office and interoffice memos.
One of the memos he wrote (he ran the plant temporarily after the death of
the previous supervisor) had the term "sigth glass" in it several times. It
took me a few minutes to figure out that he meant "sight glass". Add to the
misspellings, the clumsy syntax (much worse than mine even) and you have
some pretty unimpressive prose.
