Some email clients (outlook, aol, and other EVIL software) will run javascripts in HTML e-mail. It is a...Vileness. And then their are 'web-bugs' which are a vileness unto themself, which can in some cases read cookies stored on your computer. If you even just open an email that is thusly befouled, the sender can _*/KNOW/*_ that you opened it. How do you think spammers verify your e-mail address? I could also talk about the darkness that is web-based email (hotmail, yahoo, ad nauseum).
