And another vote of agreement - the scene did not jar for me at all.  Having
dealt with helping get my mother's parents placed in assisted living
facilities due to senile dementia last year, I was struck by how much that
scene reminded me of the sudden mood changes my grandmother experiences now.
In some ways, that made the scene a little more scary for me.

The wizard's duel worked fine for me, as well.  The addition of those scenes
in the movie served to ratchet the tension higher.  The style of the fight
was a new take on the wizards' duel, and I liked that it had less flash.
