Let's keep it simple... how about Jerusalem? Israel is the "Jewish
State". Jews are descendents of Judeans. Judea contained Jerusalem.
Note that i'm not saying that the Palestinians and whoever else has lived
in the area don't *also* have a claim to the lands/areas, i'm just
pointing out that the "Palestinians = Native Americans" statement is a
piece of inflammatory rhetoric which does not accurately reflect the
complicated and repetitious history of the Levant. In America, it's
pretty simple. There were Native Americans here, and then Europeans and
Africans and Asians came and settled down on the land that had been
exclusively Native American beforehand. In Israel, on the other hand,
you've got lots of people passing through, settling down, kicking other
people out, getting kicked out themselves, leaving, coming back, passing
through, etc. etc. Of course, Yeshayahu Leibovitz said that nations have
no claim on land, only individuals do; but i'd rather not discuss this.
Let's discuss something else, instead... like how it's cool that you have
a domain name which is your name. But then how come your email address
is _ereuter_ and not _erikreuter_ again, or _me_ or _you-know-who_ or
something like that? If i remember correctly, in _Earth_ the World Data
Net (was that what it was called?) seemed to exclusively use IP-like
numerical addresses. Aren't real words a lot more fun?
The future rocks.
