The "development" version of Solid Edge (the CAD program I work on) is a little different than the "setup" version the customers and testing crew use, so licensing is not an issue. The setup version tests for licensing, and it's installed using... you guessed it... Windows setup. ;-) For the development version, we run a batch script to download zip files from a central server computer. The batch then extracts the zips, which contain the pre-built DLLs and source code files, and extract them to the right places, then another batch script rebuilds the source code that's changed since the last official build, and a final batch sets up the computer to be able to debug the software while it's running. If AutoCAD works the same way, then licensing is not an issue. I would imagine that they don't care if their developers use the software for their own personal use, as long as they're not spreading the license-free version around to pirates. Hey, it feels good to apply knwoledge from my job to the list for once... ;-) ______________________________________________________________________ Steve Sloan .........
